Use of Artificial Intelligence in Assessments

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) is growing in all walks of life and there is no doubt that it will continue to grow. Awarding organisations have a responsibility to ensure that the public can trust the qualifications that they award and this means that the public can trust that learners have fairly achieved the results they get.

Where assessment evidence is generated at employer or training provider premises, the Centre and the employer also have a responsibility to ensure that learner evidence is authentic and not created by unfair means.

The following list will help our Centres ensure that they can be confident that their learners’ assessment evidence is authentic.

Centres must ensure that:

  • The person taking the assessment is the registered learner;
  • Job/task write-ups in portfolios contain details such as photographs with the learner visible, technical procedures, plant and equipment observations that confirm the write-up is the learner’s own work;
  • Portfolio work is signed and dated by authorised personnel who can confirm the work is the learner’s own work;
  • Learners only have access to permitted resources, documentation, operating procedures and IT systems during practical assessments;
  • During technical interviews, learners only consult their portfolios (where permitted) and steps are in place to prevent the learner consulting prohibited IT resources
